Judge Ray Singh CBE
Judge Ray Singh CBE is currently an Independent Member of the Velindre NHS Trust and is a qualified judge.
Judge Singh began his career in 1969 as a Barrister at Law, progressing to Deputy District Judge in 1992 before becoming the Resident District Judge of the Merthyr Tydfil Law Courts in 1997.
In a Non-Executive capacity, Judge Singh served as a Commissioner of the Commission for Racial Equality (UK) from 1996 to 2002, and Chaired the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Commission (Birmingham). Formal Investigation into Racism in the Prison Service; Ford Motors UK and Crown Prosecution Service (England and Wales).
In addition to former memberships of the General Council of the Bar and the Race Relations Committee, he is the Chair of the Race Council, CYMRU.
He assumed his current role at the Velindre NHS Trust in 2011.
Judge Singh was appointed to serve on Cardiff University Council with effect from 1 August 2016.
In July 2019, Judge Singh was awarded a Honorary Doctorate in Law by Trinity St David’s University Wales for service to public life and race equality in Wales.
