Paul Baston joined UWCC Estates Division in the Security Department in April 1998 as a Campus Patrol Officer, where shortly after he took on roles such as UNISON Health and Safety Officer and became a Member of the University Court until end of tenure in 2002.
In January 2003, he took up the post of Deputy Campus Patrol Supervisor responsible for assisting in the daily running of his team. In February 2014 he was appointed Shift Supervisor and Line Manager for his team of 14, charged with providing a safe and secure environment in which to work, live and study for staff, students and visitors to the University alike.
Paul is also responsible for providing, assessing, and amending some of the many Risk Assessments the Department has to abide by and to also carry out on request of colleagues in other Schools and Departments.
He liaises with the Security and Portering Departmental Safety Officer to ensure all records of incidents are completed and recorded and that policies are up to date. He takes a keen interest in the University infrastructure and University matters, especially health and safety, and staff and student wellbeing.
Paul has been a member of the University Council since December 2017.
