Dr Carol Bell
Dr Carol Bell is the former Managing Director of the Global Oil & Gas Group at the Chase Manhattan Bank (1997-1999).
She has an MA in Natural Sciences (Biochemistry) from the University of Cambridge, a BA in Earth Sciences (Geology) from the Open University and an MA and a PhD from the institute of Archaeology, UCL.
Dr Bell started her career in 1980 as a Commercial Analyst with RTZ Oil and Gas, joined Charterhouse petroleum as a Commercial Executive in 1984 and moved to UBS Phillips and Drew as European Oil Analyst in 1986. Dr Bell was appointed Vice President, Equity Research at Credit Suisse First Boston in 1990. In 1991 she joined JP Morgan as Managing Director, Equity Research until her move to the Chase Manhattan Bank.
Since 2000, Dr Bell has held a number of non-executive roles and is currently a Non-Executive Director of TransGlobe Energy, Tharisa plc, Bonheur ASA and the BlackRock Energy and Resources Investment Trust.
She is a board member at The Development Bank of Wales and chairs its Investment Committee. She was Chairman of the Investments Committee of Girton College, Cambridge until May 2014 and serves on the College’s campaign board. She is also Vice President of the National Museum of Wales, Chairman of the British School at Athens and a trustee of the Renewable Energy Foundation and a Director of the Football Association of Wales.
She is originally from Wales and is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Dr Bell joined Council on 1 August 2014. She is also Chair of the Investment and Banking Sub-Committee and a member of the Academic Promotions Committee.
