Alastair Gibbons is an alumnus of Cardiff University (BSc Economics) and until 2014 was Deputy Managing Partner and Head of Group Development at Bridgepoint.
Bridgepoint, a major international private equity group focused on investing in market-leading businesses, working with management teams to create and realise value within its portfolio companies. He is currently an Advisory partner of Bridgepoint.
Mr Gibbons started his career in the audit department of PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1980. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1983. In 1984 he joined the NatWest Group’s merchant banking subsidiary, County Bank, and was part of the founding team of a newly established venture capital group (NatWest Equity Partners) there soon after. In 1989 he was appointed Director of the Group and was tasked with setting up a larger buyout team. In 1995 he became co-Head of the Group’s London operation and was then appointed Head of UK Operations.
Following the management buyout of NatWest Equity Partners in 2000 and its transition to independence as Bridgepoint, Mr Gibbons assumed his role as Deputy Managing Partner and Head of Group Development in 2000 and 2006 respectively.
In 2009 he founded and then chaired the Bridegepoint Charitable Trust. He also became Chair of Bridgepoint Development Capital, Convenor of the Group’s Advisory Board and a member of various investment and review committees. He currently serves on Bridgepoint Growth’s Investment Committee.
Mr Gibbons is currently a board member of PEI and Elgin. He has previously served on numerous investee companies including Aenova, AV13 Media, Blagden Packaging, Birmingham International Airport, LGC and Principal Hotels.
Mr Gibbons was appointed to the Council of Cardiff University on 1 August 2014. He is the Chair of the Policy and Resources Committees and is a member of the Investment and Banking Sub-Committee and the Estates and Infrastructure
