Walter Brooks is awarded a PhD
Congratulations to Walter Ariel Brooks who has successfully completed his PhD. The focus of his research is the Welsh settlement in Patagonia. The thesis title is ‘Welsh Print Culture in Y Wladfa: the role of ethnic newspapers in Welsh Patagonia 1868-1933’.
Walter, a Patagonian of Welsh decent, has a degree in English-Spanish translation. He is currently working as a tutor in the School of Welsh who coordinates a module entitled ‘Hunaniaeth a Diwylliant y Wladfa’.
He said: ‘I am grateful to my supervisors, Dr E. Wyn James and Prof. Bill Jones. Their support was pivotal to my success. I hope that the study will help to strengthen the relationship between Wales and Patagonia.’
We are looking forward to celebrating the settlement’s 150th anniversary with him in 2015.
