Fitzalan High School 'Welsh in Business' Conference

08/02/2013

On 8 February 2013, the School of Welsh was invited to take part in the annual ‘Welsh in Business’ conference at Fitzalan High School, Cardiff.  Employers gathered in the main hall to inform Year 9 pupils of the importance of the Welsh language in the workplace.  It was an opportunity for pupils to witness, at first hand, careers in which the Welsh language is used before choosing their GCSE subjects.

More than 100 pupils attended the conference.  They were informed of the wide range of career options available to those with a degree in Welsh.  Neil Jones, a former School of Welsh student who is now a Welsh teacher at Fitzalan said: ‘The pupils all reacted enthusiastically to the event.  They had prepared questions beforehand which helped them understand the importance of Welsh to their careers in the future.  It was a pleasure to see how well they behaved and represented our school.’

The School of Welsh will build on this link with Fitzalan by contributing to similar events in the future.
