Mair Rees is awarded a PhD

24/05/2012

Congratulations to Mair Rees who has successfully completed her PhD thesis on Feminine Symbolism in Welsh Fiction by Women 1948-2008.

Mair hails from Fforest-fach in Swansea and received her early education at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. She attained a degree in psychology at Reading University before training as an art therapist at the University of Hertfordshire. She worked in this field with people with learning difficulties and mental health problems for 15 years.

After completing an A-Level in Welsh in an evening class, she decided to return to education to study a degree in Welsh. She attained a first class degree and won a School of Welsh scholarship to study a PhD at the School.

She now owns a Welsh book and gift shop, Dalen Newydd, in Caerleon and is chair of Newport’s Welsh Language Initiative. She is keen to continue with her research work and there has already been talk of publishing her PhD.
