Success again for students at Poetry Slam

This year’s Poetry Slam between the students and staff of the School of Welsh was held on Thursday 31 March in Nos Da in Riverside. The competition saw two teams going head to head in several rounds requiring different types of poems, with the audience giving marks for each performance. Llŷr Gwyn Lewis hosted the evening, and was able to be completely impartial being both a postgraduate student and a member of the teaching staff.

It was a close contest and the standard was high. Ceren Roberts from the staff team won the crown for best limerick and Lowri Elen Edwards from the students team won the stool for best poem of the evening in Llŷr’s view. But it was the audience who had the final say, and it was the students who were victorious overall winning the highest marks. Congratulations to them; we’ll have to wait and see if they can hold on to their title for the fourth consecutive time next year.
