Success for Students at Poetry Slam
A competition between the keen poets of the School of Welsh has become something of a tradition in recent years. This year’s Poetry Slam between the students and staff of the School of Welsh was held on Friday 16 April in Buffalo Bar in the city centre. The competition saw two teams going head to head in several rounds requiring different types of poems, with the audience giving marks for each performance. The poets Eurig Salisbury and Hywel Griffiths hosted the evening, giving their analysis of each poem as well as a reading of their own work.
It was a close contest and the standard was high. The staff team won the crown for best limerick and Ceri Elen from the staff team won the stool for best poem of the evening in Eurig and Hywel’s view. But it was the audience who had the final say, and it was the students who were victorious overall winning the highest marks. Congratulations to them; we’ll have to wait and see if they can hold on to their title next year.
