Cardiff University’s links with Patagonia
Staff from the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco in Argentina are visiting the School of Welsh at Cardiff University for two weeks as part of a scheme supported by Banco Santander. Their visit will enable them and members of the School’s Cardiff Centre for Welsh American Studies to discuss and disseminate aspects of their research into the life, history and culture of the Welsh settlement which was established in Patagonia in 1865.
During their visit they will take part in a Symposium on the Welsh in Patagonia and will visit places of interest to their research including the Senedd, the National Coal Museum at Big Pit and the National History Museum at St Fagans.
These visits will help significantly to promote the relationship between Wales and Patagonia in the field of higher education and academic research, with all the educational, economic and cultural benefits which will undoubtedly derive as a result.
