Two new staff members
The School of Welsh welcomes two new staff members. Dr Patrick Carlin and Miss Jennifer Marshall have been appointed as Research Associate and Research Assistant of a new research project to improve the way the Welsh language is transferred to adults. The project is funded by a £300,000 grant from the Welsh Assembly Government. The team, led by Dr Diarmait Mac Giolla Chríost of the School of Welsh, includes Dr Rachel Heath-Davies and Dr Adrian Price from the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Welsh for Adults Centre along with Professor Alison Wray of the Centre for Language and Communication Research at Cardiff University.
With a background in local government, Patrick completed his PhD in the Department of International Politics, Aberystwyth University in 2009. Following completion of his thesis, Patrick worked on the 'Welsh Language Acts and Welsh Language activism, 1964-2001’ pilot project funded by the University of Wales Publications and Collaborative Research Committee.
After studying Linguistics and Spanish at Leeds, Jenny went to the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, to complete an MA on Endangered Languages before working for the SOAS Linguistics department and the Endangered Languages Archive there.
