The Ysgolion Cymraeg in an International Context

On 19 April a conference was held on ‘The Ysgolion Cymraeg in an International Context’, sponsored by the School of Welsh’s Language, Policy and Planning Research Unit, the Welsh Language Board and Cardiff Humanities Research Institute.

The speakers included Professor Colin Williams, Research Professor at the School of Welsh; Dr Huw S. Thomas, Associate Member of the Language, Policy and Planning Research Unit; Michael Jones, Legal Constultant to RHAG; Dr Catrin Redknap, Manager of Research Projects at the Welsh Language Board; Alun Davies, Headteacher at Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun; Bryn Jones, Research Officer  at the ESRC Centre for Research on Bilingualism at Bangor Univeristy and Meirion Prys Jones, Chief Executive of the Welsh Language Board.

The aim of the conference was to develop a deeper understanding of the Ysgol Gymraeg amongst a representative cross-section of partners, individuals and institutions, and to discuss how to enhance aspects that could encourage further growth in the sector. The day was a success with over 50 attendees.
