Success at the Inter-Collegiate Eisteddfod
Cardiff University stole the show at the recent Inter-Collegiate Eisteddfod held in Swansea, thanks to the Gym Gym (the University’s Welsh Society). There was great celebration, as this was the first time in many years that Cardiff University was the overall winner.
According to Huw Foulkes, one of the School’s MA students:
"The Eisteddfod opened with the solos and ensembles, and Cardiff won most of the first prizes. Then it was the literary awards, and both main prizes – the Chair and the Crown came back to the capital. Anni Llŷn won the Crown for her short story on Goleudy (Lighthouse), whilst Llŷr Gwyn Lewis won his second Inter-Collegiate Chair for his ode on the topic Libart. Gwilym Dwyfor won the Drama Medal for the second year running."
All three are students in the School of Welsh!
After a hard day of competing, everyone enjoyed a gig at the Students’ Union which included performances by Welsh artists Gwibdaith Hen Fran, Fflur Dafydd a’r Barf and Derwyddon Dr Gonzo.
Congratulations to every one who took part!
