Cerys Matthews returns to the School of Welsh
Some years ago, the singer-songwriter Cerys Matthews studied Welsh herein Cardiff University. In a programme on BBC2 on Friday, 12 June, she will be seen in conversation with one of her former lecturers, Professor Sioned Davies. In ‘My Life in Verse’, Cerys examines the role of the poet in Celtic literature, and looks in particular at ‘cynghanedd’ or strict metre poetry. She was thrilled to discover that a prominent contemporary Welsh poet, Ceri Wyn Jones, had composed apoem about her entitled ‘CerysCatatonia’. During her visit, Cerys also had the opportunity to meet some of the School’s Creative Writing students.
