Research grant to study official language regulation
Congratulations to Professor Colin Williams on being awarded a grant of £6337 by the British Academy to investigate systems of language regulation in the USA, Canada and Ireland.
The research seeks to collect data and evidence of good practice on the various ways in which language rights and the investigation of language complaints are handled within different contexts. This is in anticipation of the possible establishment of a Language Commissioner in Wales and to a lesser extent in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The fieldwork is scheduled for the period September 1st 2008 until the end of April 2010.
