LLB Law and Welsh
Cardiff University’s Law School and School of Welsh offer an honours degree scheme leading to an LLB in Law and Welsh. The aim of this pioneering degree is to produce graduates qualified to employ their legal knowledge through the medium of Welsh as well as English. The degree meets the requirements of the professional bodies in relation to proceeding to qualification as a solicitor or a barrister. Please note that this degree scheme is only available to those with at least a 'B' in A-level Welsh (First Language) or those whose Welsh is of a similar standarad. As a result it is not normally available to second-language students.
Year One
In their first year, students study 120 credits by studying the following compulsory modules:
- CL3106 Foundations of English Law (20 credits)
- CL3108 Public Law (20 credits)
- CL3107 Contract Law (20 credits)
- CL3109 Tort (20 credits)
- CY1742 Cyflwyniad i'r Gymraeg [Introduction to Welsh] (20 credits)
- CY1743 Llenyddiaeth Gymraeg [Welsh Literature] (20 credits)
Year 2
In the second year, 120 credits are studied, including the following compulsory modules:
- CL2358 Legal Welsh (10 credits)
- CL2376 Welsh Devolution (10 credits)
- CY2255 Cymraeg Cyfoes [Contemporary Welsh] (10 credits)
In addition, they will study a further 90 credits from amongst the optional modules available either in Welsh or in Law, including at least 30 credits from amongst the optional modules in Welsh (see the list below), and at least 20 credits from amongst the optional modules in Law. This will provide the opportunity to study the Foundation subjects required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board for completion of the academic stage of training towards becoming a solicitor or a barrister. These can be studied either as 20 credit modules (the first code) or as 30 credit modules (the second code).

Final Year
In the final year, 120 credits are studied, including the following compulsory modules:
- CY4009 Cymraeg y Gweithle [Welsh in the Workplace] (10 credits)
- CL3412/CL2412 Law of the European Union (20/30 credits)
- CL2365 Law Dissertation (20 credits)
Students must study a further 90 credits, including at least 30 credits from amongst the optional modules available in Welsh (see list below) and 20 credits from amongst the modules available in Law (including the core modules available in Year 2 as noted above). There is also an opportunity to study the final Foundation module in Law for professional purposes (20/30 credits), namely:
- CL3414/CL2414 Trusts (20/30 credits)

These modules are worth 10 credit points each unless otherwise stated.
