Entry Requirements for Research Degree Schemes
- Normally, applicants should have a first class degree or a 2:1 in a related subject.
- Applicants will usually be invited to an interview in the School. International students may be interviewed by telephone or the internet.
- Applicants wishing to study through the medium of Welsh, and who have not graduated in Welsh, will have to satisfy the School as to the standard of their written and oral Welsh.
- The School of Welsh also welcomes applications from overseas or non-Welsh speaking students who wish to study for their MPhil or PhD degree through the medium of English. Current, or recent, postgraduate students at the School have come from as far afield as Algeria, Patagonia, Catalonia, China, Ireland and the USA. If English is not your first language you will be required to demonstrate oral and written fluency before being accepted onto the MA, MPhil or PhD Programme. A minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Test (IELTS) is required. Note that we consider all other country-specific qualifications on their own merit.
