Research Interests
Dr Dylan Foster Evans's main research area is late-medieval literature. He is particularly interested in the work of the Poets of the Princes, Dafydd ap Gwilym and the Cywyddwyr up to the period of the Welsh renaissance. His work covers both textual and literary criticism, and he was one a team of editors which produced a ground-breaking digitial edition of the works of Dafydd ap Gwilym: www.dafyddapgwilym.net
Before coming to Cardiff he was a member of the Poets of the Nobility 1282-1526 project at the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies in Aberystwyth. His time there resulted in two editions of fifteenth-century poetry, Gwaith Hywel Swrdwal a'i deulu (2000) and Gwaith Rhys Goch Eryri (2007) He has also published articles on medieval literature and culture in journals and series such as Dwned, Cof Cenedl, Tu Chwith, and Taliesin, and a paper on medieval satire: ‘Goganwr am Gig Ynyd’. Literary theory is another field of interest, and he has published on both post-colonial theory and ecocriticism. He also has written on contemporary poetry and was one of the adjudicators for the Crowning Competition in the Newport and District National Eisteddfod of 2004.
