There are two routes for pedestrian access to the Cochrane Building from the concourse, Ty Dewi Sant, and Car Park 17 areas. Stepped access leads to the main entrance of the Cochrane Building. There are 10 steps, a landing, then 8 steps. There are handrails on both sides and in the centre. There are tactile markings at the beginning and end of the steps. There are resting benches close to the steps and the Cochrane Building.

The level access route is through the Michael Griffith Building. Take the lift from the lower ground floor to the ground floor turn right out of the lift, straight ahead and right out of the exit door. Follow the paved area to the right of the car park around to the entrance of the Cochrane Building.

There is level access to the main entrance of the Cochrane Building. There is a very shallow gradient to the right of the entrance, gradient of 1/23. There are several resting benches close to the main entrance. The main entrance door is a manual door and some people might require assistance to open this door.

The side entrance is close to the Neuadd Meirionnydd building and close to the IV Lounge entrance. There is a shallow ramp leading up to the door, gradient of 1/16. There are handrails on both sides of the ramp and there are resting benches provided close to the entrance door. The side entrance door is a manual door and some people might require assistance to open this door.

There is an accessible toilet on every floor. There are 2 accessible toilets on the third floor.

There are two main lifts which service all 5 floors in the building. The lift call button is 1050mm high from the floor. The opening door width is 900mm. The lift car is 2100mm x 1100mm. There is a mirror at the back of the lift and a handrail. Buttons in the lift are positioned between 890mm and 1100mm from the floor. The lift has tactile buttons. There is visual and audio level information.

On the ground floor there is a resting area close to the lifts. There are also resting areas within the Health Library on the ground floor in the Social Learning Space. There is a resting area on the second floor close to the lifts.

The closest car parks to the Cochrane Building are Car Parks 16, 17 and 18.
