Postgraduate interdisciplinary conference
7-8 July 2011, Cardiff

The University Graduate College is pleased to announce an international and  interdisciplinary conference - run by and for postgraduate research students - on the theme of ‘Transformations', which is scheduled to take place at Cardiff University on 7/8 July 2011.  This event will follow in the footsteps of the highly successful annual conferences held over the last few years on ‘(Re)-Constructing Multiculturalism’, 'Control', 'The Body', 'Reading' and 'Constructing Identities'.  Each of these conferences attracted 60-80 postgraduate researchers (as delegates and speakers) from around the world.

This year’s conference will be aimed at doctoral students whose research work converges on the theme of Transformations. The conference will attract doctoral students from a variety of disciplines, including English, History, European Studies, Welsh, Archaeology, Religious Studies, Journalism, Cultural Studies, Music, Philosophy and Politics. The aim is to enhance understanding by providing the opportunity for interdisciplinary cross-fertilisation of ideas. Examples of themes to be explored are: cultural/political transformation; transformation of self/other; creative transformation; philosophical/ethical/legal transformation; transformation of landscape/built environment; past/future transformation; digital transformations. Associated themes might include travel/migration; visions/visionaries; language; degradation/renewal, etc.

We are delighted to announce that Professor Gary Hall, Professor of Media and Performance at Coventry University, will be giving the keynote address.
