Research Masters
Cardiff University offers several Research Masters programmes that serve as specific preparation for a PhD as well as providing an opportunity for others to develop their research skills for use in industry, charities, or the public sector. Students enrolled on these research Masters have access to University Graduate College activities.
The MSc/Diploma in Social Science Research Methods aims to provide advanced training in research methods across the full range of the social sciences. Students are provided with a thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of how to construct effective research studies, of the variety of data collection methods available to the social scientist and of the principal methods of analysing social scientific data. They are also introduced to the political and ethical frameworks within which social science research is conducted; and to some of the ways in which the results of social science research are disseminated. The Programme is recognised by the ESRC as appropriate training for PhD research.
The Master of Research (MRes) in Biosciences is a one-year programme designed to provide a valuable postgraduate qualification that enables individuals who wish to improve their research skills to undertake a research project in the laboratory of an internationally renowned scientist. The programme would be ideal for someone thinking of undertaking a PhD but wishing to learn more about research. It also offers the award of a postgraduate certificate thus maximising accessibility to individuals working in industry or higher education, both at home or abroad.
The Master of Research (MRes) in Biomedical Research gives students the opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary Postgraduate Research Degree. The Master of Research award in Biomedical Research (Laboratory Science) or alternatively, Biomedical Research (Epidemiology), is a full-time Programme extending for 52 weeks with the inclusion of one exit point, providing for a Postgraduate Certificate in Biomedical Research Methods (minimum of 60 credits)
