BRASS Research Unit

Cardiff University was host to the ESRC Centre for Business Relationships, Accountability, Sustainability and Society (BRASS) from 2001-2012.

Information on the research done through the Centre can be found both on this page and through the Business School, School of Geography and Planning, and the Law School who are all continuing aspects of research that were incubated in BRASS.

Sustainable Places are very pleased to be able to promote and extend the research legacy of the BRASS Centre by establishing this Research Unit with four active research themes, and by making the archive available.

Sustainable mobility

Within the new BRASS Research Unit, research will be continued on business models, centres of automobility and electric mobility.

Valuing ecosystem services

This area of research draws on several themes pursued through the BRASS Research Centre that broadly addressed questions of accountability, regulation and governance of the environment.

Sustainable food

Projects currently underway are more focused around the bioeconomy and land use, and understanding the relationships between urban, peri-urban and rural areas across the sectors of both food and energy.

Sustainable communities

Research under this theme now focuses on sustainable communities across multiple sectors, including energy and transport.
