Get Involved

There are a number of steps we can all take to reduce carbon emissions. Some of these are given below:

The University provides advice on sustainable procurement, along with a Sustainable Procurement Strategy. It also encourages more sustainable approaches to reuse, disposal and recycling.

Each academic school and division also has an Eco Champion whose role is to promote more sustainable working practices.

In addition, the University is working on a number of areas relating to green and more sustainable travel.

See how much difference even small initiatives can make towards saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

If you wish to get involved with practical environmental work, there are a number of local voluntary, non-political, non-campaigning organisations which will welcome new members. These include:

  • Cardiff Conservation Volunteers (CCV)
CCV’s aim is to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment. See http://www.cardiffconservation.org.uk/welcome.htm for more details, or see the presentation linked on the right, which also shows areas of interest around Cardiff.
  • British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV)
BTCV’s aim is to support sustained environmental improvement. See http://www2.btcv.org.uk/display/whoweare for more details.

Please see also our Links and Resources section for links giving advice and support on cutting carbon emissions.
