Part-time employment

Many postgraduates get part-time jobs during their studies. Of course, it’s vital that you balance the demands on your time to get the most out of your experience as a postgraduate student.

Unistaff Jobshop

The Unistaff Jobshop is the student employment service run by Cardiff University Students’ Union.

The Jobshop is a free service which aims to provide temporary part-time work for students. It’s a great way to earn extra cash and gain valuable work experience. Opportunities are available within the University, the Students’ Union and with local employers.

International students

If you are an international student and are studying in the UK with a Tier 4 visa, you are entitled to work but your entitlement will depend on your level of study and whether you are in term or vacation time.

Please be aware that it is your responsibility to ensure that the total number of hours you work each week does not exceed the number shown on your visa or biometric residence permit.

"As a self-funded student I have been lucky enough to find part-time work through the University Jobshop to support my studies. I also work as an undergraduate seminar tutor. I find such work valuable and would recommend it to anyone. Teaching is daunting at first but you quickly become comfortable - and helping students is extremely satisfying."
