Choosing the right course will depend on your current level of English language and what you're hoping to achieve.
Whichever programme you decide on, you'll receive educational counselling and support.
And if you are staying on as a full-time student at the University, we will gladly make arrangements for you to visit your Academic School and offer our advice and assistance during your transition. You can also benefit from open access support classes in English language and academic study skills, as well as one-to-one tutorial sessions.
English for University Study Programme
The English for University Study Programme focuses on providing students with the academic study skills they need to study effectively in a UK environment, covering language, study and professional skills and British academic culture.
Pre-sessional summer courses
If you are looking to improve your English and have an IELTS score of 5.5 or above, you can study on an intensive course in English for Academic Purposes. The course runs during the summer, before you start your academic degree.
Please note this course is only available for students who hold an offer to study at Cardiff University.
Postgraduate Research Pre-sessional Programme
If you are an international postgraduate research student, we offer a pre-sessional programme to help support you to improve your English language skills before joining our research environment.
This programme takes place in the autumn in preparation for doctoral study in January.
In-sessional English Language Support Programme
Current students who want to improve their English to perform well as part of their degree, we offer you an in-sessional English Language Support Programme. It's a range of language and study programmes that supports both undergraduate and postgraduate study.
International Foundation Programme
This programme allows you to improve your English while studying an academic foundation subject that will let you progress to an undergraduate degree course with us.
