How does the rep system work?

The student body give feedback to their Reps who attend SSPs and talk to their Senior Reps. The SSPs feed into Boards of Studies, which feed into the University's academic quality system. The Snior Reps also attend SSPs and communicate with the Academic Officer in the Students' Union who is involved with the academic quality system and regularly communicates with the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students. The Student Academic Representative System works so that students can effectively tell the University what is important to them and give feedback on the experience that they have had.

In order to represent the student voice effectively there are different levels of activity.  This diagram shows how your voice (depicted as the “Student body” at the bottom) gets around the University.

You can view how the student representation system works within a School, within the University and within the Students’ Union, or find out more about the role of a rep.

You elect your rep by voting for them either in class or by e-mail, at the beginning of every academic year.  This student will then be your point of contact all year if you have an opinion or an idea about your course or your University experience.  You can contact them at any time and if you don’t know who your rep is, then you can search for your rep on this web page.  The rep will be updating staff on the student opinion so if you want your voice to be counted then make sure your rep hears it.
