Stonewall Leadership Programme 2011 – Call for Applications
4 August 2011

Professor Terry Threadgold
Professor Terry Threadgold, Pro Vice-Chancellor for staff and diversity explains the Stonewall Leadership Programme and how interested members of staff can apply.
“Now in its seventh year, Stonewall’s Leadership Programme is the UK’s only specifically designed course for high talent LGB leaders. Over two days, the Leadership Programme offers the unique opportunity for delegates to examine who they are as leaders from the perspective of their sexual orientation and the practice of authentic leadership. This two-day residential is moderated by Jo Bostock, a learning professional with extensive experience in coaching, organisational consultancy and career development. Ashridge Business School, who are hosting the programme again this year, will also share their own expertise on authentic leadership.
“The University would like to fund two members of staff to attend the programme. A maximum of two applications per organisation will be accepted and successful applicants will be notified at the end of September. The Leadership Programme takes place on the 10th and 11th November at Ashridge Business School.
“Karen Cooke, Chair of ENFYS our staff LGBT+ network attended the course last year and said 'The Stonewall Leadership Programme is without doubt the best leadership development course I have attended. The environment that is created on the course, the range of people you meet from different sectors and the opportunity of discussing the importance of sexuality and leadership really does make it a unique experience and one I have hugely benefited from in the way that I work and perform.'
“We are therefore asking those who are interested in being nominated to apply to the University using elements of the application process required by Stonewall themselves:
1. Send us an 850 character (approx 125 words) statement of the motivation behind your decision to apply for the Stonewall Leadership Programme.
2. Include 550 characters (approx 100 words) on when, if ever, do you notice your sexual orientation being a factor in the workplace.
3. In 450 characters (approx 75 words) tell us about a specific, current challenge in your leadership which you would like to explore on the Leadership Programme.
4. Send us a one-page version of your current CV.

“Staff who are interested can send their applications to me via email at ThreadgoldT2@cardiff.ac.uk or address hard copies to me at Main Building, Room 0.46, Park Place, Cardiff CF10 3AT. The deadline for applications is Monday 15 August 2011. Once we have received applications we will set up a small panel to be chaired by myself and including members of the LGBT+ Staff Network to select our two nominees. We will then give them our fullest support in their applications to Stonewall.
