Professor Terry Threadgold, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Staff and Diversity introduces the 2011 Staff Experience Survey

Cardiff University’s first staff survey took place in 2008 as part of the Positive Working Environment initiative.   We achieved a 43% response rate, and you provided us with an incredibly useful data set. This has enabled the University to take action to address the issues and concerns that you raised through the survey process.

Some of the important actions we have taken at University level to respond to what you told us include: all the work we have done on communication with staff which has resulted in a leaner and we hope more efficient committee structure, improving the staff section of the university website, developing the e-newsletter  Blas as an improved form of internal communication, and continuing the development of leaders and managers across the University. This has involved the creation of the leadership and management framework and an increased focus on improving performance management procedures, including appraisal, through the Cardiff Futures work. We have continued to work at embedding the principles of equality and diversity across the university as good practice and as core values.

The 2011 Staff Experience Survey is now available to complete online or in hard copy and we would like to really encourage you to fill out and tell us how you think we are doing.  Your opinions will enable the University to see how things have changed since 2008, to find out what is working well and where further improvements can be made and will provide a true picture of what our staff think about the progress we have made  to help us plan for the future.

Following the feedback from 2008 the survey is much shorter in length and should only take between 15-20 minutes to complete.  The survey is totally anonymous which means that the questionnaire you complete will never be linked to you as an individual, no matter how unique you or your role may be.  The survey opened on Monday 10th October and will close on Friday 11th November.  The results from the survey will be available to all staff early in the New Year and action plans to address the issues raised will be developed over the months that follow.

The survey can be found at the following web address: http://orcsurveys.orc.co.uk/CardiffUniversity2011/

This is your opportunity to bring about change in the University by sharing your thoughts with us.  Help us to identify and build on what we do well and make the changes that will benefit you and the University most. The entire university community stands to benefit from  the 15-20 minutes it will take you to complete the survey so please take the time and have your say.
