PHEW 2011

“Ensuring that the health and well being of staff is supported is extremely important if we are to ensure that we have a happy, healthy and productive workforce. Since the first Positive Health and Environment Week in 2009, it has become a popular annual event in the University calendar. It is clear from the feedback we receive after each event that PHEW is something which staff have found enjoyable and valuable, enhancing their experience of working for the University,” says Professor Terry Threadgold, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Staff & Diversity.

Health checks, a football tournament and food taster sessions are some of the events that members of staff can enjoy as part of Positive Health and Environment Week 2011 (PHEW).

Running from 27 June – 8 July, PHEW gives all staff the opportunity to try a variety of activities in relation to health, wellbeing and the environment for free, both within and outside of typical working hours.

The types of activities that are anticipated for the 2011 programme include a variety of fitness classes and dance classes, as well as workshops, massages, tours, and other activities.

A full schedule of events will be released in May and staff will be able to book their place on an event a week after the programme is published. Staff can attend up to five activities during working hours, with their line manager’s permission, and unlimited activities during lunchtimes or after work.

Further information about PHEW 2011 can be found at www.cardiff.ac.uk/phew.  To keep up to date with progress, the schedule of activities and information about booking staff can sign up to the PHEW mailing list – register interest by emailing phew@cardiff.ac.uk
