PHEW 2011

13 June 2011

PHEW 2011

White water rafting, Tai Chi, Zumba and free health checks are just some of the activities staff can try out as part of this year’s Positive Health and Environment Week (PHEW).

Run annually, PHEW gives staff the opportunity to try a variety of activities centred on health, wellbeing and the environment.  The activities are free and take place across the campus and at a number of external venues to allow as many staff as possible to participate.

PHEW runs from Monday 27th June – Friday 8th July and staff can attend up to five activities during typical working hours (at their line manager’s discretion) and unlimited activities during lunch times or outside of working hours.

The schedule of events is available on the PHEW website at www.cardiff.ac.uk/phew with a small number of activities still to be confirmed. To stay up to date with the programme and any schedule updates please email phew@cardiff.ac.uk and ask to join the mailing list.

On Friday 8th July PHEW 2011 will finish with a drop-in day, which will run from 11am - 2pm in the Viriamu Jones Gallery, Main Building, Park Place.

A variety of activities will be available at the drop-in day, including caricature drawing, free tasters of fruit, salad and soup, and a variety of organisations will be holding stands for members of staff to drop-in to for advice, assistance or information.

Staff from the department store John Lewis will also be attending with more than 10 of their beauty houses – Origins, Kiehls, Dr Hauschka, Benefit, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lancome, Guerlain, Clarins, Laura Mercier and Dior. They’ll offer make-overs, make up advice, hand and arm massages and free goody bags, amongst other things.

A Foodbank collection will also take place throughout the fortnight so that members of staff can help to support those suffering financial hardship and the reality of being unable to feed themselves or their families.  For full information on how to donate food, please visit the PHEW website and download the PHEW 2011 brochure.

The last day of PHEW will also include the chance to try white water rafting at Cardiff International White Water Centre.  Due to this activity being extremely popular last year, places will be allocated to staff on a raffle basis.  Check the details in the PHEW 2011 brochure to find out how to register your interest and to find out when the free raffle will be held.
