Meet this year’s Students’ Union Executive Committee
5 September 2011

Marcus Coates-Walker
Cardiff Students’ Union offers our students a vast range of opportunities from socialising and personal development to community volunteering and getting involved in student media.
The Union is run by students for students; always with the vision of “Students First”. Meet this year’s Executive Committee, the officers elected by the student body to represent their views and head up one of the largest Students’ Union in the UK.
Marcus Coates-Walker – President
@PresidentCSU
The President is the public face of the Union and is responsible for over-seeing and co-ordinating the other Officers.
Marcus Coates-Walker, voted in as President in the March 2010 Union elections, discusses his plans for the coming academic year.
“My year as President promises to be the most exciting and challenging experience throughout my time in Cardiff. The Students’ Union is led this year by a fantastic team of passionate and dedicated individuals who I hope to lead to a highly productive and successful year.
“Listening to students on a regular basis and responding to their views is integral to everything we value at the Students’ Union. Having visited and experienced other leading Unions across the UK, it is clear that the quality of services at Cardiff Students’ Union is extremely high. Whilst this is the case, one of the primary aims is to improve the awareness of these services through highly innovative methods to ensure that all diverse sectors of the student body are aware of the fantastic opportunities here at Cardiff.
“It is my personal ambition to ensure that employability is at the forefront of the Students’ Union’s thinking this year. Without even taking into account the inevitable changes to tuition fees, my passion is to make Cardiff graduates the most experienced, focussed and highly competitive in the UK. Through working collaboratively with the University, I believe that we can improve the provision of employability opportunities within both institutions.
“On behalf of the whole elected officer team I can say that we are proud to have been elected to represent Cardiff students and we are proud to work alongside such a diversely talented array of very receptive and understanding people within the University.”
