Hello and Goodbye

19 December 2011

Clara Ho

Clara Ho

In this new feature, Blas will be introducing some of the University’s newest members of staff, as well as saying goodbye to some familiar faces who are retiring.

Here, we meet Clara Ho, a marketing officer in the International Office, who has recently joined Cardiff.

Introducing Clara Ho

Originally from Malaysia, Clara has joined the Communications and International Relations Division as a marketing officer. Find out more about Clara below.

Where will you be working in the University?

The International Office.

What will you be doing in your new role?

My main job is to handle marketing projects that are undertaken by the International Office. In addition to that I provide administrative support and am a BRIDGE programme counsellor.

How are you settling in to life in the University and Cardiff?

Very well. I did my LLB and LLM degrees in Cardiff, so I’m no stranger to the city. I’m familiar with the way the University operates and consider Cardiff my second home.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

I play netball and pool in my spare time. On Saturdays I volunteer at the Family Contact Centre, which is a charity in Splott. I also enjoy the occasional escape into fantasy novels (I literally don’t get up from the couch the entire day). I do enjoy travelling too, and am currently looking into going to Spain and Portugal next year.

What one question would you like Blas readers to help you answer about the University?

I’d like to know where the best places to eat are! I’m such a foodie!

If you’re able to answer Clara’s question about the University, send your responses to Blas at Blas@cardiff.ac.uk. We’ll publish a selection of them in our next edition.

If you would like to suggest someone who has recently joined your School or Division or who is about to retire to feature in Blas you can let us know by emailing us at Blas@cardiff.ac.uk

In other appointment news, Professor William Gray has been appointed as the University’s first Professor of Neurosurgery to help lead the next generation of neurosurgeons and neurosurgery research has been appointed.

Professor Gray becomes the University’s Professor of Functional Neurosurgery, a joint appointment between the Schools of Medicine and Biosciences and Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board, designed to combine academic and clinical expertise in neurosurgery in Wales.

Goodbye to...

Martyn Harrow, Director of Information Services who has been appointed as Head of JISC (Joint Information Services Committee). Martyn will leave the University at the end of December having been a member of staff since 2003. Good luck in your new role Martyn!
