The talents of Cardiff’s international students have been celebrated in a special event at Aberdare Hall

Sponsorship agencies and staff from around the world gathered to recognise the students’ achievements in competitively winning prestigious awards and international scholarships, such as the Commonwealth Scholarship.

Other scholars had faced competition from their fellow work colleagues, winning grants from their employers to enable them to study at the University.

In total more than 70 people attended the event and were welcomed by Vice-Chancellor Dr David Grant. Sandra Elliott, Director of  Communications and International Relations at the University spoke about internationalisation at Cardiff and a representative from major sponsor Saudi Aramco UK, Ms Aggie Cooper,  explained why they sponsored so many of their employees to study at Cardiff.

The event was closed by MSc International Transport student Bashir Ambi-Mohammed, who expressed his thanks to his own sponsors, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, for their financial and professional support.

Rhian Curtis, Senior International Officer and organiser of the event said: “In a time of economic uncertainty, when many international students are struggling to find the finances to support their studies, it was wonderful to extend our thanks to companies and sponsorship agencies who recognised the importance of investing in higher education.

“We look forward to continuing to form close relationships with such agencies for the future.”
