Attracting world's best

A generous package of scholarships, supporting our most talented international students during their time at Cardiff, has just been launched.

The University is in demand among students the world over for high-quality research-led study and undergraduate and postgraduate level. Our 3,000-strong international student community currently covers all five continents and many past alumni have returned to their home nations to success in such professions in the law, medicine, journalism.

To reflect the high quality of our overseas students and to attract even more of the brightest in a highly competitive global market, the University has created the International Scholarships Fund. A wide variety of support packages are on offer to students with places to start at Cardiff this September, from foundation level up to PhD.

Highlights of the new Fund include:

  • The Vice-Chancellor’s Honorary International Scholarship – Tuition fees and maintenance support paid to two outstanding undergraduates throughout their time at Cardiff.
  • Country-Specific Undergraduate Scholarships - £5,000 worth of support for six of the best first-year undergraduates from Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nigeria, the USA or Vietnam
  • Postgraduate (Taught) International Scholarships – Tuition fees and maintenance for four of the most talented postgraduates on taught courses
  • Postgraduate (Research) International Scholarships – Three highly attractive awards offering the difference between home and overseas fees for up to four years of study.

The University is also offering a range of scholarships with partner organisations. On top of these, all academic Schools are offering their own international awards.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Elizabeth Treasure said: “Our international students are a vital part of the academic, social and cultural life of the University. The new International Scholarships Fund aims to keep Cardiff as one of the world’s attractive destinations for highly gifted scholars. I would encourage all colleagues welcoming overseas students next September to make them aware of the generous opportunities on offer.”

The closing date for University scholarship applications is July 15. Further information about how students can apply can be found at www.cardiff.ac.uk/internationalscholarships or by e-mailing internationalscholarships@cardiff.ac.uk .
