Activity camps for children

13 June 2011

Hot Shots

A multi-activity camp giving school children the opportunity to try out arts, craft and sport during the holidays is being run by the University.

Hot Shots caters for children aged 8-14 during the school holidays and will be opening its doors from Monday 25th July until Friday 2nd September 2011 for the summer holidays.

The camp is based at the University’s Sports Training Village located on the Talybont Campus (close to Tesco Extra on Western Avenue), and provides a safe and secure environment for children to participate in the wide variety of activities on offer to them.

“Cardiff University wants to offer an affordable camp that is inclusive to all children,” said Sports Centre manager Gwyneth Sheehan. “Often camps are specifically geared towards either sports or arts, but we wanted to create an environment that provides an opportunity for children to experience all kinds of entertainment during the school holidays using the University’s facilities. The first year in 2010 was a great success and we hope this continues through 2011 and beyond.”

Hot Shots Activity Camps will run every weekday (except bank holidays) and children can be dropped off from 8.00am until 6.00pm. Qualified and experienced staff will support children to engage in age-appropriate activities paying particular attention to personal development, interaction with others and fun and enjoyment.

Sporting activities will include: badminton, basketball, cricket, football, netball, tennis, table tennis, touch rugby, volleyball, dodgeball, athletics and an end of week sports day. Other activities will include: t-shirt design, collages, treasure hunts and much more.
