Welcoming International Students

Welcoming International and European students
A record number of new European and International students (744) used the two-day meet-and-greet service at Heathrow and Cardiff Airports organised by the International Office to welcome them to the University. A 10 day induction programme helped the students settle into their new academic life and included campus tours; a Welsh folk dancing and welcome party; a treasure hunt and prize giving lunch; and a coach tour of South Wales.

At the Health site, the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Healthcare Studies and Nursing jointly held an early evening welcome buffet, which included a quiz and speeches from third and fourth year students who described the challenges and survival strategies they successfully adopted during their first year.

Charity Week

Charity week

Students from the University’s Islamic Society have raised more than £12,000 in a week-long fundraising campaign. Activities included a fayre, food and cake stalls.

Bara Ashi, President of the Society said: “It was very encouraging to see so many students from all faiths and all walks-of-life participating in Charity Week. The money raised will go towards helping the poorest children who have been orphaned across the globe. A big thank you to everyone to helped volunteer and raise this fantastic amount of money.”
