Evaluation of the uptake of advice, directives and guidelines to the NHS concerning patient safety by the safety alert broadcast system

The safety alert broadcast system (SABS) was set up by the Department of Health to disseminate and monitor the implementation of alerts issued by the National Patient Safety Agency, the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency and the Estates and Facilities Directorate.  This study funded by the Patient Safety Research Programme, and involving interviews with senior managers and ward leaders studied the management and implementation of alerts in 41 NHS organisations in England using 'tracker' alerts including those related to latex allergy, naso-gastric feeding tubes and needle free intravascular connectors.
