Evaluation of the implementation of the alert issued by the UK National Patient Safety Agency on the storage and handling of potassium chloride solution

An evaluation of the implementation of the first alert issued by the National Patient Safety Agency in 2002, designed to control the availability and use of concentrated potassium Chloride solution. The study was conducted in 20 acute Trusts in the UK and involved: interviews with key managers to assess the management of the alert; interviews with ward nurses and junior doctors to assess staff awareness; an audit of compliance involving the collection of minutes, memos and policies and a physical inspection of 208 clinical areas.
