Research Themes

Work and Organisation

The NHS modernisation agenda is revolutionising work roles and organisation. There is a need to address the consequences of these developments and deepen understanding of service delivery challenges. Activity centres on the implications of evolving nursing roles for healthcare delivery; managing organisational, agency and professional interfaces and the effects of work organisation on patient safety, service quality and occupational health.

Health Knowledge

Theme leader: Professor Anne Williams

This theme focuses on health knowledge. Participants in health services have differential access to, and needs for, knowledge and information, which along with a range of situated constraints, impact on decision-making. Activity is focused on evidence generation, translation and utilisation and lay and expert frameworks of understanding.

Health Technologies

This theme focuses on the evaluation of health technologies. It addresses international concerns with the development of effective, user-oriented services. Activity focuses on the impact of existing health technologies on user/carer experiences and evaluation of interventions designed to enhance the effectiveness of healthcare.
