New History of Nursing and Midwifery Launched

Professor Billie Hunter from Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies, together with Professor Anne Borsay from Swansea University's College of Human and Health Science, recently celebrated the launch of their new collaboration Nursing & Midwifery in Britain Since 1700.
Nursing & Midwifery in Britain Since 1700 is a collection of essays that explore and compare the distinct histories of nursing and midwifery in Britain from the beginning of the eighteenth century to the modern day. Contributors include:
- Professor Pat D'Antonio from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing
- Professor Jane Sandall from Kings College London
- Dr Alison Nuttal from the University of Edinburgh School of History
The book launch took place on Thursday 21 June at Blackwell's Bookshop in Cardiff, attended by colleagues from Cardiff and Swansea University. Professor Melanie Jasper (head of Human and Health Sciences, Swansea) and Professor Daniel Kelly (RCN Chair of Nursing Research, Cardiff) both spoke to assembled guests about their perceptions of the book - Professor Jasper on the need there had been for a book that placed the histories of the two professions within the context of the other, and Professor Kelly on the need for an objective historical look at the professions.
