Doctorate for Pioneer in Pain Relief

Lyn Middleton, Senior Nurse in Pain and Rheumatology Services for Aneurin Bevan Health Board, is the first student to be awarded the Professional Doctorate in Nursing at Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies.
The Doctorate was achieved after five years’ research into chronic pain relief and patients’ tolerance to opiod drugs over time. Lyn developed a question-based system aimed at helping pain experts establish which patients might be becoming tolerant to their medication.
"It is exciting to think that patients could start to benefit from the work I’ve done." said Mrs Middleton.
Lyn has also received an innovation award from the British Journal of Nursing for her research.
