Transforming Care, Systems and Services through Leadership (NRT150)

This Masters level module will equip health professionals wishing to practice at an advanced level and beyond with the specific skills and knowledge to lead effectively in a range of contexts and to develop new roles and services. The module will prepare practitioners to lead in increasingly changing health care systems through promoting an awareness of the current challenges facing health services; the importance of clinical and corporate governance; factors influencing organisational change and strategies and approaches to transform care, services and systems.

The twelve week module is delivered predominantly through distance learning, with a three-day taught component delivered during the second week.  The focus of the module on distance learning will allow participants to continue in employment and study in their own locality.  Online learning activities are designed to enable participants to utilise their practice experiences as the basis for learning. It will also enable students to gain rich and varied insights from engaging in online forums with peers from a range of diverse backgrounds and disciplines. In this way learning becomes relevant and meaningful on an individual level. Critical thinking, complex decision-making and problem solving skills will be promoted, all with a focus on practice improvement. Ultimately, practitioners’ undertaking this module will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to enable them to transform practice in order to deliver safe, high-quality, responsive and efficient care and services.

Pre-programme Support

Clearly constructed and easy to follow guidelines will be provided 4 weeks prior to the commencement of the module – this will enable students to access and engage with a range of I.T. tools in order to develop the I.T. skills required to undertake the module.  Personal and online supervisory and technical support will also be offered to each student during the module.
