Cardio-Respiratory Physiology and Pathophysiology (HCT045)
Validated through the School of Healthcare Studies
The aim of this module is to develop in the student a critical understanding of the biology, physiology and pathophysiology of the human respiratory system at an advanced level. The student will be able to build on their knowledge base in the areas of development of the cardio-respiratory system, physical principles applied to the cardio-respiratory system and the work and control of breathing. This will be the basis for the applied module Cardio-Respiratory Therapy.
Students will also acquire an in-depth understanding of methods of measurement in respiratory physiology and skill in the interpretation the results from these measurements.
Programme Pathway
Optional module on MSc in Physiotherapy, MSc in Healthcare Science and MSc in Managing Care in Perioperative Practice, stand alone module for Healthcare Professions.
Prior Learning
Students must possess a first degree or diploma in a Healthcare subject giving licence to practice and have at least 2 years post registration experience.
