Advanced Clinical Practice Portfolio

The Advanced Clinical Practice Portfolio is an innovative alternative to a dissertation, created to take into account the nature of the Advanced Practitioner role. The Portfolio is launched at the beginning of the programme, to allow the student to capture any opportunity to experience and achieve competencies, and clinical hours.  It will provide a clinically focused programme that integrates the anatomy and physiology, altered physiology and advanced practice competencies required to underpin the treatments and decisions made in clinical practice, at band 7 Advanced Practitioner level.

The Advanced Clinical Practice Portfolio will comprise of two elements: a competency document within a portfolio of evidence (maximum 10,000 words), worth 70% of the final module mark, and situational analyses (maximum 10,000 words), that will draw together the student’s learning exemplifying evidence based practice.

Students will be encouraged to examine theoretical aspects of decision-making, with a view to analysing and developing existing practice, and to develop strategies for effective and defendable practice based on analyses of situations experienced in practice. Students will be supported by a DSMP, and will be expected to complete 3,150 hours of associated practice.
