The Marie Curie hospice have 30 in patient beds and is registered with Health Inspectorate for Wales to provide specialist palliative care for adult patients who reside within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and other areas of SE Wales. Marie Curie hospice, provides palliative care to cancer and non cancer patients( up to 10% - currently 4%), using a holistic multidisciplinary team approach. 30 bed inpatient unit accepting patients for terminal care, acute symptom management and 2 permanent respite beds. Also day therapy unit offering a range of therapies and nursing/ medical intervention and a specialist palliative community nursing team.
Key working relationships with GPs, palliative care teams in UHW, Velindre and Llandough and with other providers eg George Thomas hospice care. We are part of the South East Wales Cancer Network.
Key Learning Opportunities:
Patients are admitted for complex symptom management, psychological support, rehabilitation, occasional respite and end of life care.Ongoing bereavement support is provided for families.
Holistic care is provided within a multidisciplinary approach and in collaboration with the Community Palliative Care Team, Social Services and the Trust (NHS) Palliative Care Consultant and Team.
- To offer insight into the unique specialty of in patient Palliative and End of Life Care Nursing provided by a non-statutory healthcare provider.
- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of adults at the end of life
- Interdisciplinary working
Opportunities to develop specialist knowledge working with Nurse Specialists and other MDT members
