Key Learning Opportunities:
1 second year student on medical placement only (as will also have at same time 1 student maximum from University of Glamorgan on their medical placement)
Cannot ever accommodate more that two students at any one time.
Students on this six week placement will have the opportunity to learn about many varied aspects related to sexual and reproductive health including: the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for individuals presenting with actual or suspected sexually acquired infections; sexual health promotion; sexual health community outreach services; continued care needs of clients affected by HIV/AIDS. This placement also offers students the opportunity to gain insights into how this service liaises with social services, contraceptive and termination services, young peoples sexual health clinics, microbiology, cytology, hepatitis clinical nurse specialist, secondary schools and varied charitable organisations (e.g. Terence Higgins Trust) that provide sexual health advice and support.
Preparation for Practice:
Not suitable for module nine management placement.
