C4 East provides care for patients with acute and chronic gastroenterological mainly hepatology conditions.  A 30 bedded unit, 4 x 6 bedded bays and 6 cubicles.  25 hepatology patients and 5 care of the elderly patients.


All ages of adult patients and mature teenagers (16-17 year olds).

Key Learning Opportunities: 

Students will be able to experience care of the acute and chronic hepatology patient which could include patients with alcoholic liver disease, hepatitis, liver and pancreatic cancers plus the care of the elderly patients may have multiple pathology.

Preparation for Practice:

An understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the GI tract and common GI problems.


  • 0700 - 1930 and 
  • 1900 - 0730 students are able to negotiate shifts with their mentor and 7.5 hour shifts are a possibility.
