Main Roles and Responsibilities
As an Associate Lecturer, I am currently aligned to pre-registration modules on the nursing degree course. My clinical background is in adult mental health nursing and I have involvement with generic and field specific components of the course. The majority of my teaching and supervision is within modules relating to professional development.
My substantive role is within Cardiff & Vale UHB. I am employed as Professional/Practice Development Nurse for Mental Health Division. This role brings varied responsibilities and expectations. As well as ensuring active involvement within service improvement schemes and development of clinical initiatives, I co-ordinate/lead a number of existing programmes that include; Accelerated Development, Nurse Foundation and Band 5 Development. I am developing further interests in enhancing the role of Health Care Support Workers.
Before taking on this role, I worked in adult acute and intensive care mental health services.
In addition, I am due to complete my training as a counsellor in January 2014. I have been enrolled on USW’s counselling course (Integrative Pathway) for over two years and hope to gain BACP membership in the new year. I work as an associate counsellor for ‘Voices From Care’. VFC are Wales’ national independent organisation who are dedicated to upholding the rights and welfare of children and young people who are or have been looked after. In addition, I have also worked with MIND in a counselling capacity.
I have a particular interest in contemporary psychodynamic and person centred approaches, as well as mindfulness based cognitive therapy.
