Main roles and responsibilities
I currently work as a Consultant Midwife with a remit for normality and public health at the Aneurin Bevan Health Board. My passion is to help women achieve a positive birth experience, regardless of the type of birth. I am also a Supervisor of Midwives. I have presented widely across the UK and internationally and was recipient of the RCM Excellence in Midwifery Education Award in 2011.
I worked as associate lecturer at University of Glamorgan previously where I gained the PGCE and led a module on Professional Development and Public Health. I bring teaching, marking, personal and academic supervision experience into my new role as Associate Lecturer here at Cardiff University, where I join the midwifery team. I also aim to develop my research experience and pursue further study.
Academic interests:
Joint lead for All Wales initiative to produce on-line training module for midwives on perinatal mental health (Chair of All Wales Perinatal Mental Health Forum)
Currently working with RCM to develop on-line training for numeracy skills for midwives
Member of Wales Midwifery 20:20 “Core Role of the Midwife” work stream & Wales representative on Scotland “Public Health” work stream
Lead for developing Maternity Pathway using the Map of Medicine
Member of review team for Safer Childbirth (RCOG / RCM / RCOP / RCOA)
Member of NMC Essential Skills Cluster (normality) for review of undergraduate midwifery curriculum
Journal reviewer for BJM and AJM
International and national conference speaker
Winner of Heads of Midwifery Advisory Group Award 2007 for partnership working.
