Understanding and Managing Huntington’s disease in a Multi-disciplinary Environment

Overview:
This one day event is suitable for healthcare professionals (GPs, Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Social workers) and aims to disseminate current information and guidance on the management of Huntington’s disease (HD). Topics to be covered include
- inheritance and genetic testing;
- diagnosis and clinical management;
- symptoms, impact and family perspectives.
The day will also include concurrent workshop options (choice of 3) focussing on standards of care for Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and language therapy, Social work, Psychiatry and Nursing. Current research will be summarised.
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this one day event, course participants will have:
- up to date appreciation of the complex nature and impact of Huntington’s Disease
- comprehensive knowledge of the symptom management issues
- understanding of the importance of multi-disciplinary working and the role of the HD specialist services
- access to published standards of care guidelines and resources
- knowledge of the research agenda in HD

Self assessed CPD credits based on learning activity can be claimed where 1 hour of learning activity equates to 1 CPD credit (6 hours for this event) or double that where impact on practice can be demonstrated.
